SEPTEMBER 2009

To start us off we thought we'd share this beauty of a shirt with you, a very special shirt to launch the new section of our website!
- This short sleeved Nike shirt was worn in the 2009 UEFA Champions League Final v Barcelona on the 27th May 2009 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome
- This style of shirt with European lettering and numbers and the special 'Winners 07/08' blue arm patch was only ever used in this game, as in all the other rounds of the 2008-09 Champions League competition, United either wore their traditional red homeshirt or the all blue commemorative away shirt that marked 40 years since United's first European Cup win
- This fact, along with the shirt being from a major final, and that a very small number of theses shirts were prepared for the Final makes it an extremely rare specimen
- Manchester United have played in 5 European Finals (4 European Cup/Champions League and 1 Cup Winners' Cup) winning 4 of them
- Only 3 members of the United line up for this game wore long sleeve shirts (Berbatov, Ronaldo & O'Shea) as it was a very balmy evening, with the remainder of the team opting for short sleeves
- United decided to opt against wearing the '2008 FIFA World Champions' chest badge for this game as it would have clashed with where the embroidery was to be placed. It would have meant either moving the FIFA badge or relocating the embroidery, both of which options were deemed to be too untidy
- The embroidery on the front of the shirts is done on one machine and the shirts that were prepared were all exactly the same. Anyone that tries to replicate the embroidery on a different machine from a different swatch will NEVER be able to make it look exactly the same as the originals - a little hint for you there so you can keep an eye out for the fakers who try and 'make up' their own shirts to pass on as authentic 'originals'! There is also one other VERY significant detail which we know of that differentiates the original shirts to the fakes AND also the player shirts that were used in the 2008-09 Premier League season. This detail has been kept highly secretive and is unknown in general circles !
- This shirt was the 14th (yes 14th!!) different variant of outfield shirts worn by Manchester United in the 2008-09 Season. They are as follows in as close to chronological order as we can remember! (click here to view page):
